JAKARTA — PKPU Human Initiative team started functioning all accesses of wells in Somalia spreading in seven provinces. This is the program initiative of Water for Life which has been initiated since severe drought that hit Somalia in 2016 and 2017.
Achmad Zaki Jawash, head of Yayasan PKPU Human Initiative Foundation made the statement in a meeting with local and international partners in Mogadishu on the sidelines of the program launching. This meeting was also the preparation of the launching of three artesian deep wells which has been used by Somali refugees since early Ramadhan this year. The wells reach the depth of 200 meter.
Achmad Zaki said the wells spread in seven provinces including Banadir Region, Lower Shabelle, Middle Shabelle, Bay Region, Hiraan and Somaliland in the north. Water for Life Program in Somalia is a response to drought in Somalia in 2016. The disaster forced about 6.5 million people or half of Somali people to evacuate to nearby cities and neighboring countries.
The making of 26 units of wells is a series of Water for Life program besides the distribution of clean water, hygiene kit, food and meat for refugees. This is the response of the ongoing hunger threat in the past two years.
